Five-day programme on youth and peace building begins in Chandigarh

Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural ceremony Dr MM Goel, Director, RGNIYD, said that the youth needs to be empowered to create a smart future.

A five-day long “Global Training of Trainers on Youth and Peace Building” by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) Asia & Pacific, and other groups kicked-off at Sector 12 in Chandigarh on Tuesday.

A statement said that over 30 youth leaders from 14 countries including Bangladesh, Lebanon, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, India, China, South Africa, Somalia, Iran, Benin, Bangladesh, Mali, Myanmar working with national or international peace building organisations, networks, governments and the academics are participating in the programme.

Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural ceremony Dr MM Goel, Director, RGNIYD, said that the youth needs to be empowered to create a smart future. “We need to make them Smart (simple, moral, action oriented, responsive and transparent) in strict sense to be relevant for peace building. We have to adopt long-term approach for youth by mobilizing their capacities, energy, capabilities, and ability of adaptation to new technological trend,” he said.
