To improve demographic statistics of Kyrgyzstan Russia will allocate $ 1.43 mln

Bishkek, March 2, 2018 / Kabar /. A new project of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) was presented in Bishkek under the title: Kyrgyzstan: Strengthening the system of state statistics in Kyrgyzstan in collection, analysis and dissemination of demographic data.

The project was presented at the Embassy of Russian Federation in the Kyrgyz Republic with the participation of Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Andrei Krutko, UNFPA Programme Specialist Tolgonay Berdikeeva told Kabar News Agency.

Berdikeeva said that the project will be implemented jointly with the National Statistical Committee and the State Registration Service of Kyrgyzstan. The project budget is $ 1.43 mln and will be implemented before April 2021.

The purpose of this project is to strengthen the capacity of system of state statistics in collection, analysis and dissemination of reliable, complete and up-to-date demographic data in accordance with international standards. Within the framework of the project, a full-fledged, up-to-date archive database on civil status acts will be created for the first time and a system of permanent distance education for employees of the National Statistics will be established to improve their qualifications.

The project provides support for pilot census in 2019 and for the main population and housing census of 2020 based on international standards. Working conditions of the staff of the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic will be improved for the first time in many decades.

A similar project was launched in Belarus in 2014, both projects are aimed at strengthening the capacity of CIS countries to understand, forecast and manage population trends for sustainable development in the future.

UNFPA will manage the project and provide technical assistance, ensuring transparency of the project at all levels.

This project will contribute to implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Kyrgyz Development Strategy-2040 and the Taza Koom Digital Transformation Program.
