On the sidelines of the Regional Midwifery Forum, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Frederica Mayer, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Egypt, and her accompanying delegation to discuss enhancing cooperation in the health sector.

During the meeting, they exchanged ideas about better coordination for the preparation of the International Conference on Health and Population 2023, sponsored by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and for long-term projects that will strengthen midwifery education.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained in a statement on Monday that the meeting further discussed the latest developments in family planning and reproductive health activities in Egypt.

According to Abdel Ghaffar, the health minister affirmed his commitment to ensuring that every woman and newborn has access to quality, respectful, and rights-based care.

Moreover, Frederika Meijer, UNFPA Egypt representative in Egypt said: "We are pleased to witness that midwifery has become a priority in the Arab State region. Advancing midwifery as a profession has always been a key focus of UNFPA’s work for more than a decade."
