The Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, is set to host a film festival in honour of its founder and father of Pentecostalism in Africa, Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa.
Vice Chancellor and chairman of the Senate of the university, Professor John Okhuoya, said, “The event taking place at the university’s Heritage Campus in Ugbor, Benin City, will showcase the creative filmmaking talents of the institution’s students.”
He added, “With over 200 students participating, the festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of storytelling through film.
“Participants will engage in a three-day filmmaking workshop starting on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Participants will be grouped into teams, with each team embarking on a 300-hour production challenge to develop their ideas into films.”
South-South PUNCH learnt that during the festival, the best 100 story ideas will be shortlisted based on criteria that include originality, feasibility, and alignment with the values of Archbishop Idahosa.
This initiative not only honours the legacy of the founder of the institution but also nurtures the next generation of filmmakers.
The event is the forerunner to a global event scheduled for September, later this year.
BIU invites all aspiring filmmakers to seize this opportunity to share their unique stories and contribute to the rich tapestry of film art.
