Alex Drummond Shares Sweet Backstory Behind Owning Dog George—Discover How He Became Part of the Family
George is still known as the first baby of the Drummond Scott family
If you’re familiar with the Drummond family, you know that Ree, the Pioneer Woman herself, is a huge animal lover. While Ree had four kids of her own (Alex, Paige, Bryce and Todd), she also had a farm full of four-legged furry friends to care for over the years, including a few different dog breeds. So, it’s not surprising that Ree’s eldest, Alex Drummond, adopted a pooch (George, known as the firstborn of the Drummond Scott family) with her husband, Mauricio Scott. How George the dog became part of the Drummond Scott family
Although Ree’s ranch in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, has dogs of the basset hound (Fred and Rusty) and yellow lab (Duke and Lucy) variety, Alex decided to pick a pup different from those she grew up with. Enter George, the happy-go-lucky golden retriever.
It feels like George has been part of the Drummond Scott household for years, but Alex only adopted him in 2023. Since then, he’s become a regular part of photo ops, trips and even sweet moments with Alex and Mauricio’s baby girl Sofia.
Alex couldn’t be happier with her decision to adopt George, but her followers still question her choice of breed. She also recently hosted a Q&A on her Instagram Story, sharing insights into her life, including plenty about motherhood with both Sofia and George. Among the top questions she addressed was why she chose a golden retriever, even though the ranch life was full of other kinds of dogs.
Why Alex adopted her dog George in 2023
One of the questions asked on her Stories was, “How did you decide to get a golden after growing up with other breeds?”
As it turns out, Alex’s extended family has a golden, which is where she fell in love with the dog breed. “I spent a summer in college interning in Dallas and living with my cousins who had a golden and fell in LOVE and immediately decided I needed a golden someday,” she responded. So, getting George was a no-brainer!
Not long after his adoption, Alex moved to Dallas, where she and the family currently live. She’s posted a ton of photos of George growing up, and it’s hard to believe the little puppy she brought home two years ago is full-grown.
Alex always shares sweet moments between George the dog and baby Sofia
Alex and Mauricio welcomed their first human child around Christmas time, and the Drummond clan has been extra joyous ever since. She captures photos and videos of George and Sofia regularly, but is excited to watch the bond strengthen as Sofia grows up.
Her most recent post about the pair was a reel with the caption, “I hope our golden retriever gets along with our baby girl.” She also wrote, “I can’t wait to watch them grow up together 🥲.” The video included many snapshots of George sleeping beside Sofis, cuddling by her side or coming up to her stroller, crib or play area. He’s also been involved in tummy time, story time and more.
The comments section was flooded with love, and even Ree and Aunt Paige chimed in. “I AM SOBBING,” wrote Ree, while Paige said “Omg 😭😭😭.” Many other people shared how sweet these moments were and that the love of a dog is unmatched.
