Paramount Plus adds 'best movie of the year' that is 'everything you want in an action movie'
Fans say it is a perfect mix of genres
Paramount Plus has just added what some fans believe is the 'best movie of the year' that is also 'everything you want in an action movie'.
The streaming service now includes action comedy Novocaine as part of its offering for subscribers in the US. Viewers can sign up via its own dedicated app or as an add-on subscription via Amazon Prime Video or Roku TV. New users should be able to claim a seven day free trial when joining for the first time.
Novocaine was only released in cinemas back in March of this year and made quite an impression. Its cast is lead by Jack Quaid, one of the stars of Amazon series The Boys. Quaid also appeared in horror thriller Companion earlier this year and is the son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan.
He is joined in the action release by Jack Nicholson's son, Ray Nicholson as well as Spider-Man star Jacob Batalon and Prey's Amber Midthunder.
Quaid takes on the role of Nathan Caine, a mild-mannered introvert who is diagnosed with congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA). Essentially, it means that he cannot feel pain. He works at a bank and is forced to rescue his co-worker (Midthunder) after she is taken hostage by a group of robbers.
It was a seemingly surprise hit upon release, even earning a respectable $33 million at the box office against an $18 million budget.
Novocaine also scored 81% rating at Rotten Tomatoes with many praising its use of genre, Quaid's central performance announcing himself as a leading man and delivering a unique premise.
One fan, voicing their views online, posted: "This film is everything you want to see in an action movie. Keeps you on the edge of your seat, roller coaster ride. Thrilling and amazingly funny. All out amazing cast."
Another added: "Novocaine is a thrilling ride that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The film's unique concept, where the protagonist can't feel pain due to a rare medical condition, is both intriguing and cleverly executed. The action sequences are intense and visually stunning."
A number of film lovers also labelled the film as the best new release of 2025 so far. One person claimed: "This movie is filled with action, twists & turns, with a sprinkle of comedy.
"It’s by far the best movie I’ve seen so far this year. Novocaine doesn’t disappoint, it keeps you guessing until the very end. If you enjoy entertaining films, this is definitely for you."
Someone else simply stated: "One of if not the best movie of the year. Lots of action and comedy, perfect mix, would definitely see it again."
Novocaine is streaming on Paramount Plus.
