Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost roast Michael Che with crude joke on SNL
Scarlett Johansson crashes SNL to roast Michael Che after crude joke: "Yes, I remember that."
Scarlett Johansson took the stage at Saturday Night Live to return fire after Michael Che’s crude joke about her last year, surprising viewers during the latest Weekend Update segment.
The moment unfolded during a joke swap between co-anchors Colin Jost and Che, a recurring bit where each writes jokes the other must read live. “Before I tell another joke, I want to apologize to someone I hurt,” Che began, prompting Johansson to walk out to applause.
“Last time we did joke swaps, I made Colin do some tasteless jokes, comparing your vagina to Costco roast beef,” Che said, referencing a December segment.
With a deadpan stare, Johansson replied, “Yes, I remember that.”
Reading the joke Jost had written for him in retaliation, Che continued, “I was just lashing out because I’m jealous. I’ve never seen a human vagina. Notice I said human, because I once spent a summer on a farm.”
Jost, 42, kept the heat on by making Che read more embarrassing lines: “Michael Che can’t take his hoodie off during sex because he has more nipples than a pregnant dog.”
Without missing a beat, Johansson added, “Yes, I have heard that about you.”
The awkward roast traces back to December when Che forced Jost to deliver a graphic punchline aimed at Johansson while she watched from backstage.
“I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost had said.
“Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich... but I ain’t tripping. I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid... Nah, nah, I just playin’, baby. You know I don’t go downtown! Shiz! That’s gay as hell!”
Johansson's jaw dropped during the segment, and Che later admitted on The Tonight Show that she was “genuinely so shocked.”
According to Jost, the SNL team warned Johansson ahead of time, asking, “‘Hey, would you be OK if Michael made a kind of vagina joke at some point?’” She reportedly agreed, saying, “‘Whatever, I’m open to it.’”
Still, Jost confessed he didn’t expect how far the joke would go: “Then the graphic came up for Arby’s.”
Johansson and Jost, who met on SNL in 2017, married in 2020. They share a son, Cosmo, 3. Johansson also has a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.
