Express lanes open for free near Huntersville due to I-77 crash
Crash closes 3 of 5 lanes on I-77 Monday
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - Three of five lanes were closed Monday afternoon on I-77 in Mecklenburg County due to a crash, officials report.
On Monday, May 19, several lanes on northbound I-77 were closed at mile marker 20.6, past the I-485 exchange near Huntersville. Three of five lanes were closed as of about 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
Drivers were cleared to use the express lanes on I-77 at no charge while the regular lanes were blocked, officials said.
Officials said the crash was expected to be cleared by about 6 p.m. on Monday. The lanes still appeared to be closed, as of 6:14 p.m.

The crash appeared to involve a tractor-trailer. Officials said one person had life threatening injuries from the crash. Their identity was not immediately shared.
